A route that includes a highway and back roads, and small towns and villages. Thank you.

Try to follow the east coast for the best scenery but make sure you visit towns like durham, York and Cambridge on the way. Use the A1M if you want to get to London faster.

Regardless of which way you travel it's going to take a heck of a long time via back roads.
I would suggest travelling down the A1/M1. This takes you all the way down the east coast of Scotland into England and goes past some very nice scenery.
Check out aa route finder G.B. and you can put various places in the "via" box. This will also give you time and distance between the various locations.
Enjoy the trip.

I did this a few months ago and you definately have to go and check out Wales! It's incredible and you'll see a whole new side to the UK, the people are great too.
