Question:
Move from London to Edinburgh?
2009-08-30 11:24:36 UTC
Preamble: I and my boyfriend didn't had any job in Italy, so, seeing that every Countries are in financial crisis, we moved last week in London, for trying to find a job.

Now: we are looking informations about Edinburgh. No one among our friends knows anything about Edinburgh (they say us just Edinburgh is a wonderful city and... that's it!). Could you help us?

What about credit crunch in Edinburgh? The situation is the same as in London or is WORSE?
We have seen that there are just two underground's lines: is it simple to move without a car like in London?
In London, because of credit crunch, they ask you 6 weeks of deposit for renting a house: is it the same in Edinburgh or could be simpler?
We have seen that we can ask by our self for a NIN directly in Job Center: if we ask for a NIN here in London, shall we use it in Scotland or we have to do another one?

Many thanks by now for your answers!

Edinburgh is a very cosmopolitan city and nobody will notice you among the thousands of English people already living there. I don't know what you consider small but just try walking around it! It is a great city with loads of wonderful sights and attractions, good eateries, great pubs and clubs. There are plenty of green areas within the city - Princes Street Gardens, the Meadows, Arthurs Seat, Duddingston to mention only a few. No city is cheap to live in - rental prices are high and you might be better to buy a flat. Other great places to live in England (Edinburgh is in Scotland as I am sure you know) are Cornwall, Devon and Somerset.

There is no underground railway in Edinburgh. Transport within the city is difficult at the moment because some of the main streets are dug up to install a tram system. This will take a few years.

Renting property is expensive.

Jobs in the financial sector are hard to find due to recent events.

Apart from the above, a fabulous city.
