Edinburgh is a fairly compact city, the city centre all walkable. Once you're there, you can either a) go on a tour bus which gives you a nice introduction and overview of the city (and you can hop on and off to visit eg. the Castle) - the cost last time was around £15. OR b) get a map of the city centre, and explore the city by foot. Princes Street for retail on one side, the gardens on the other, together with the National Gallery (one of the two buildings is completely free). Go up Cockburn St to the Royal Mile (Castle at the top, Scottish Parliament and Holyrood Palace at the bottom, and loads of old town culture in between. Oh, and the best time to go is during the Festival in August if you're into that, but anytime is good.

Go on a boat trip on the Forth Belle and enjoy unrivalled views of the Firth of Forth and its magnificent bridges and islands! There is a optional landing at Inchcolm Island.

Go for a walk at Harlaw Reservoir, near Balerno on the North Western side of the Pentland hills, surrounded by small pockets of woodlands, grazing and farmland an excellent walk right on the edge of the capital city. . A car park is located a short distance away and Harlaw Visitor Centre. The walk around is virtually level and there are great views/scenery that extend towards the Pentland hills and glens. A lovely walk with a feeling of being in the wilderness.

Near by at Ratho is Edinburgh International Climbing Arena (www.eica-ratho.com) It is the largest indoor climbing wall in the world, offering taster sessions and full lessons for all ages great fun.

Tantallon Castle is a great, impressive Scottish castle to visit, a mid-14th-century fortress, located 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) east of North Berwick. It sits on top of a rocky headland surrounded by cliffs offering stunning views north to the sea-bird colony on the Bass Rock. which looks out onto the Firth of Forth. Near by have a stroll along North Berwick and visit the Scottish Sea Bird Centre. Another place to go to is the summit of Berwick Law (rises to 187 metres), with wonderful panoramic views.. To the west see Edinburgh Castle and the Forth Bridge; to the north the Firth of Forth and Fife coastline; in the east the ancient curtain walls of Tantallon Castle and the Lammermuir Hills to the south.

Visit Mary King's close, a medieval street under Edinburgh's Royal Mile. 'The Real Mary King's Close' a warren of hidden streets where real people lived, worked and died between the 17th and the 19th centuries. An attraction which allows visitors to step back in time to walk through these underground closes. A factual, down to earth and witty tour.

A nice, wee, very, traditional Scottish pub called the "Canny Man's" It has a good wine list, an exceptional selection of single malt whiskies. It's been around since 1871. In Morningside at 237 Morningside Road. Also on Morningside Road is Loopy Lorna's tea house, with loose-leaf teas, freshly baked cakes, yummy sandwiches and there's also a daily "hot dish". You could pick up a souvenir in Morningside as there's lots of little shops, maybe artwork from a local artist from one of the little art shops.

Lots to see and do - I hope this of interest to you have a great time.
